Hello, and thank you for visiting SynDown. I am the host of this show, Geoff.

My love for radio extends back to when I was a child growing up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in the truckstop known as Chatham, Virgina. All my life I have enjoyed the intimacy of radio, and music in general. An inherent magic exists in this medium, be it broadcast, podcast, or streamed into one’s mind. Waves and code, carrying so much raw emotion, depthful lyrics, and brilliant sound.

Flash-Forward to the world of today. Corporations bent on squeezing the dollar from consumers by force-feeding focus grouped talent is the status quo. Only on some college stations, or buried in the overnights, can you discover some of the great artists emerging every day. We started SomaCow Media with an eye on repairing radio in general, producing quality talk, great music, and programming devoted to pleasing the listener while staying true to ourselves.

SynDown was a pet project of mine from the beginning. I knew that the industrial/darkwave genre I loved simply received no airplay. Quality artists like VNV Nation, Assemblage 23, Grendel, The Tenth Stage, and KMFDM… So many great bands receiving only minutes of airtime, while schlock-rhyme and pop and other meaningless wastrels continued to receive play after play after play. I wanted to create a haven for the fans of Industrial Music, somewhere they could come and hear the new and the old, the hits and the B-sides, somewhere they could experience music on a more intimate level.

I hope that I am succeeding in that. We strive to develop a personal connection with the artists at SynDown. We go to great lengths to forward you the links to their sites, to discuss upcoming shows and band news, and at the same time, to entertain you. That is what radio should be, not the constant barrage of embedded sales driven screaming hidden behind lackluster DJs shilling BMGs latest show pony.

Thank you for checking out what we do. Support the bands, send us requests… But more importantly, seek out what you like in this world. Don’t let a boardroom dictate your music. What you listen to is far too personal and powerful a thing to entrust its content to a committee trying to sell you soap.

Take Care of Yourselves,

Geoff
